The 6-foot-5 Hudson Catholic varsity basketball player gives the game his all. But right now, his competition is a little bit different.
The freshman was recently diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, and the entire basketball community has his back.
More than $46,000 had been raised on a GoFundMe for freshman Antonio Sellers on a GoFundMe as of Sunday afternoon.
Sellers is one of the team's best assets on and off the court.
"I love the Sellers," coach Oscar Chimilio said. "Antonio is a great kid. He is very respectful, competitive, does what’s asked of him and will put up a great fight 'til the end. I’ve [learned] a lot being around him ❤️❤️."
Three days after finishing his first basketball season with the HC Hawks last March, the freshman was rushed to the hospital with a severe headache.
He was taken to a second hospital based on test results and subsequently diagnosed with a brain tumor the size of a golf ball that was bleeding out, the campaign says.
Sellers underwent emergency surgery to remove the malignant tumor on March 11. Nearly a month later, the headaches returned -- the tumor was back.
He maintains, however, he won't be on the bench for long.
"I will be back 💯🗣," he wrote on Instagram.
